Car Crash
By Ashley Amerio

A woman whose car was hit by another vehicle on Highway 113 outside of Robbins was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police sources. The unidentified 44-year-old Robbins resident has been involved in a minor accident that left her car facing the wrong way in the southbound lane of Highway 113. The woman attempted to exit her vehicle via the passenger door, since the driver’s door was too badly damaged for her to get out of the car. However, another car attempting to pass struck the passenger side of the car and killed the woman.

Fog had reduced visibility in the area to around 800 feet. Investigators do not believe that drugs or alcohol played any role in the crash.

Pedestrian Accidents After Car Accidents: The Untold Risk

When you have been involved in a car accident on a busy highway, it is sometimes better to stay in the vehicle than to attempt to exit it. Of course, this depends on the circumstances, but every year many people are injured or killed while walking on a highway or while trying to get out of a car after a crash.

It is very difficult to find exact figures on these types of accidents because the police may classify them in one of several ways. In California, for example, the California Highway Patrol collects information on pedestrian accidents and car crashes but does not necessarily note which pedestrians are killed immediately after car crashes. Nevertheless, at least some nearly 3,000 traffic fatalities in 2012, according to the Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System, were due to pedestrians being struck down as they attempted to leave their vehicles after a crash.

In order to prevent these accidents, police officers advise that drivers and passengers should always stay in the vehicle after an accident unless it is unsafe to do so: if the car is on fire, for example, or if the car is blocking traffic on a highway and has a high probability of being struck by another vehicle.
